Cherette Group acquired 101 N. Third Street in Grand Haven, Michigan, known as the Tribune Building, formerly the home of the Grand Haven Tribune. The site is well located on the corner of Third Street and Columbus Avenue, just one block from Grand Haven’s dynamic main street, Washington Avenue, and three blocks from the Grand River and its famous boardwalk.

The Tribune Lofts is a five-story building with covered parking on the street level and four floors of apartments above, containing 39 multifamily rental units in total. The 47,203-square-foot building offers 20 one-bedroom apartments and 19 two-bedroom apartments – all with premium features and private balconies. The building also features a rooftop deck with an outdoor kitchen, grilling area, and a fire pit. Looking west from the rooftop deck, you can see a view of downtown Grand Haven and even a glimpse of Lake Michigan. The Grand River and Dewey Hill is to the north, and the U.S. 31 drawbridge over the Grand River is to the east.

This redevelopment provides a product that didn’t exist in the market and meets an important housing need. West Michigan is a prime location for multifamily investment. Demographics support the demand for Class A multifamily housing, recreational opportunities abound on the lakeshore, new development has been limited in recent years, and the location offers easy access to surrounding cities.

Cherette Group managed all aspects of development including site selection, engineering, design, and construction. This allowed for attention to long-term quality and operational efficiencies in design. Cherette Property Management provided a seamless transition from construction to lease up and management.

It was important to Cherette Group to preserve the history of the Tribune Building and the Grand Haven Tribune by including fonts that resembled the typography used in the paper’s printing and the building’s design is meant to reflect its heritage through a brick exterior and art deco details.

Each apartment at The Tribune Lofts offers an open floor plan, 9’ ceilings, natural light, a private balcony with downtown views, and elevator access. The designer features include tile backsplashes, quartz countertops, and stainless steel appliances. The pet-friendly homes offer shared community amenities that include the rooftop deck with an outdoor kitchen, grilling area, and fire pit along with a private parking lot and parking garage, a package room, community lobby with a fireplace, keyless entry, and 24-hour emergency maintenance.

The Tribune Lofts is well positioned to lead in a high-quality, growing market due to its walkable downtown location, modern design, unique amenities, and experienced development and management team. Additional information is available at
